The Designated Safeguarding Lead
The School has appointed a senior member of staff with the necessary status and authority to be responsible for matters relating to child protection and welfare. Staff, volunteers, parents, group leaders and homestay providers are welcome to contact the DSL if they have any concern about the welfare of any students in the School.
If preferred, concerns may be discussed in private with the student's teacher or the Managing Director, who will notify the DSL in accordance with these procedures. A DSL is trained to the highest, Specialist Level of Safeguarding Training.
The main responsibilities of the DSL are:
To be the first point of contact for parents, hosts, teachers, students and non teaching staff in matters of child protection.
To coordinate the child protection procedures in the School.
To maintain an on-going training programme for the school employees.
To monitor the keeping, confidentiality and storage of records in relation to child protection to liaise with the LADO.
Where appropriate to take part in the child protection conferences or reviews.
Advise and act upon all suspicion belief or evidence of abuse reported to her.
Keep the Managing Director informed on all actions unless the Managing Director is the subject of the complaint.
Liaise with local authorities and other inter agencies on behalf of the school.
